Jacky Claiborne, 51, is autistic. He and his longtime friends and bandmates, John Elderkin and Henry Pharr, will debut his new music at the Double Door Inn on Dec. 28. Music is a universal language. It was helped Charlotte native Jacky Claiborne, 51, explain himself to a world that doesn't often understand him. Claiborne, a 1983 graduate of West Charlotte High, is autistic. But friendship is a universal language, too. The friends Claiborne made in high school have remained his lifelong friends, have made music with him and, now, they've helped him realize a dream. Claiborne has gotten to perform his original songs on some pretty impressive stages -- all thanks to a little help from John Elderkin and a few other West Charlotte alums.
